About Dr. Malia Downing

Dr. Downing was raised in Hawaii and received her undergraduate degree from the College of Saint Scholastica in Duluth, MN where she played collegiate soccer and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She was awarded her medical doctorate from the University of North Dakota, graduating second in her class. Upon completing medical school, she moved to Kansas City, KS where she did her medical internship and dermatology residency at the University of Kansas. Dr. Downing completed her fellowship training in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology and Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery at Surgical Dermatology Group in Birmingham, AL where she received advanced training in the management of skin cancers and reconstructive techniques.
She was also a regular volunteer at the KC Health Center, providing dermatologic care to uninsured patients. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American College of Mohs Surgery, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. In her free time, Dr. Downing enjoys scuba diving, spear fishing, hiking, skiing, working on her family’s farm in Hawaii, and spending time with her husband, sons, and dogs.
